Masters completion

Masters title: The reported and unreported catches two neighbouring East African countries: Kenya and Tanzania.

Start date: 25 February 2019

Reliance by governments and agencies on incomplete and under-reported marine fisheries data risks the mismanagement of both marine ecosystems and national food security. My research focuses on the marine fisheries of two neighboring East African countries; Kenya and Tanzania. The research aims to improve the quality of marine fisheries statistics in these two countries by reconstructing reported and unreported catches. By providing a more accurate historical baseline that will allow for a range of valuable ecosystem and stock status indicators and assessments to be undertaken, my research will contribute to improved fisheries management and food security in the region.
