In recognition of World Ocean Day, Jessica’s June segment on The Big Blue explored the ocean’s extraordinary importance to life on Earth. From providing food for billions of people to regulating the systems that make our planet habitable, the ocean underpins human wellbeing in countless ways. Jessica highlighted the importance of marine protected areas (MPAs) as a key tool for ocean recovery, celebrated the ongoing discoveries being made beneath the waves - including a recently discovered whale fossil graveyard off Western Australia where 5 million-year-old whale fossils and five active whale falls were observed. She also encouraged listeners to share why the ocean matters to them and support efforts to protect it for future generations. You can listen to it here.
